If we want the dog last long, and that is healthy, start by giving good eating. This is not to feed him until you drop: we must take into account the quality and quantity of what you eat, just as they would for a person. Formerly considered the dog as little more than the “garbage” of the kitchen. It is true that a dog eats everything (or almost everything) that give their owners, but feeding of scraps is not exactly the best thing you can give. As bad as living too well, is give you just flesh and bones. The digestive system of a dog is a carnivorous animal. However, living with humans has made to adapt to a much more varied diet, and now need more than just meat.
As this is not a culinary encyclopedia canine will not go into details of making menus or description of diets. What we do is list a number of details to consider, and some helpful tips.
-No need to hassle with the menu. Today you can find in stores enough feed and are designed so that the dog is well fed. Do not hesitate to ask your veterinarian favorite, or better yet, the breeder who sold you the dog (if you’ve got in this way). They will advise you well on the basis of their experience. If the dog is purebred, it is more interesting to talk to the breeder (this is my personal opinion) because it usually has more detailed knowledge about the breed of dog, and can advise you whether to add some kind of supplement to feed, according to the characteristics of the dog in question.
-The daily ration should carve up into three meals (the puppies) and two (adults). It is normal for adults to give them one meal a day, but I find quite a few advantages and disadvantages. With a single meal, one to the next spend 24 hours in which the animal bite test, and the time after eating a full stomach to the brim, which increases the risk of bloat, especially if a large dog.
-The dog must always have your water fresh and clean. In summer, it is sometimes convenient racionarsela a little, because if you drink too much can cause diarrhea (the way of knowing that the dog is drinking too much is when you need a mop instead of a newspaper, to collect their stools).
-Should not be given food after hours, or always be asking. And never be given food from our own while we are on the table, let alone if it is a puppy. Doing so causes two problems: 1) always be asking every time you sit down to eat (and no longer remove the custom in life), 2) is very likely to reject their food, eat off your plate if you like, tell hereinafter “the feed, you eat it.” And to take this practice will have to starve him.
-If the dog is healthy and has not picked up bad habits that do not eat, or eat only part of what you leave on your plate, may be due to these causes:
-Is already full. Just slightly reduce the daily ration to fix the problem. It is known that this is the case, if other than the fact of not eating, the dog is still happy and active.
-The dog “knows” that he has had enough, relative to the exercise you do. You may be little you walk and the dog stops eating, instinctively, when he has satisfied his needs.
-It is very hot. If this is the case, do not force him to eat, or put him food after sunset, when the heat subsides.
-Is bored with the food. Sometimes it happens. You can “condimentarsela” a little, for example, mixing with the average meal sardines in oil (tin). If you eat like a beast, is that he was tired of the food always taste the same.
-He is sick. Normally there will be other additional signals, and the lack of appetite. Vigilalé.
-When you need to change the type of food (eg feed for puppies to feed adults) do not suddenly but gradually, mixing the two types of food and varying the ratio of the mixture gradually to the new type of food.
-If one day you fancy giving your meat instead of I (do not advise it, but you know),do not give it never raw. Cuecela a bit, anyway. Avoid digestive problems due to lack of custom, and eliminate the risk of parasites. Keep in mind that raw meat leaves a foul breath and causes flatulence, which then have to endure. And remember that next time you put the feed going to say “pa ‘you.”
-You can give bones to gnaw, from time to time (not too often or too much calcium and will eventually have problems). Give large bones: veal knee is great, after cooking it a bit (you can even take the broth for a soup). Small bones (chicken, rabbit …) is not the des ever, splinter and swallow almost whole. If you get in the throat, which involve emergency vet visit, when you suffer after defecating.
As the dog comes into your first home, pay a visit to the vet to do a review of your general, establish a schedule of vaccines and deworming, help you organize your diet, and generally take all necessary related to dog health. And do not forget you have to visit periodically.
Just as it is to eat regularly, your dog has regular exercise. Try to be stable and impose a fixed schedule for both. The dog will thank you and will make your life easier. As for the length of the rides, the only rule is that the more the better. Perhaps the dog is confined at home most of the day, but is not designed for immobility. Lack of exercise can cause health problems and character to the animal, not to mention that you can destroy the house by simple boredom. Different breeds of dogs have different needs, so you may want to first find out which is best for the kind of life you’re trying to give them.
Space and bedding:
Not all dogs adapt well to all environments, but there is more room than is commonly believed. For example, a large dog German shepherd type can live perfectly in an apartment not too large, as long as it compenses with regular exercise and adequate. See more details in the pages of fitness of the home.
If you have enough space, you can make a “bed” particular (and teach you not to use anything else!), Or do use a blanket on the floor. In any case you should not let him sleep in your bed (as a puppy is a delight, like a bear, but if it’s a breed that weighs 50 kg, you’ll end up regretting).Remember that any habit that you purchase a puppy, is very difficult to remove it later.
-When the dog has learned to hold their needs and not dirty at home (see pages dog’s education ), the animal will endure until they burst, rather than stain the floor. Do not suffer unnecessarily. The regular schedule is important, so the dog knows “when it’s up” and even when to hold back. Teach it in the right places, and collect your stool (if you do not have clear, check the pages about ” love education “;-)
Hygiene and care on the street:
The street is where our dog passes it better, but also where the greatest risks to their health. It is therefore appropriate to take some precautions.Of course,it is not walking the dog locked in a bubble. You just have to check some details, which can be done easily and without having to devote too much attention. The walk must be a pleasurable activity for both dog and master, and if you pay attention, will avoid problems. Furthermore, the advice from the following list are easy to follow, and eventually becoming an unconscious attitude on our part,so do not require much effort.Let’s see:
-In newly weaned pups (which usually means newly acquired) must avoid the walk and contact with other dogs to the vet they have set their first batch of vaccines, at least. It is a period in which your body has virtually no defenses.
-Possible sources of disease transmission are the stools of other dogs. Urine and feces of other dogs will be as “healthy” as the dog that has occurred.Because obviously we can not know the status of that other dog, avoid risks.Simply stated: remove the dog in the habit of poking around.
Is difficult Instinctively the dog smells urine and stools, as they give great deal of information about the other animal. In principle, the one who sniffed no problem. The thing to avoid is the tendency to lick. This can be achieved in most cases “punishing” to the first lick. However,if your dog is sniffing urine from male and a female in heat, no education and should be worth the dog away by force.
-Worse still are the garbage. Never poke you must stop them. In this case, the risk to the dog is greater than in the previous case, but if it is to humans. Hydatidosis is a parasitic disease, which the dog is not affected, while only carries the parasites at a time of their life cycle, but then spread to people, to which can be fatal. In addition to the garbage, the dog can ingest parasites through the feces of another infected dog, so we return to the previous case.
-In town, the dog should always be tied. It is not just a matter of fulfilling the statutory requirements (which require it). Is that only if we tied the dog will act quickly by a pull on the leash, to take away from garbage, feces, etc., and to prevent the dog from running out if something catches your eye (a cat, another dog, a child playing …) and avoid accidents. Recall that if the dog was loose and jump and cross the street and is hit, the blame is not on anyone but us.
-Instinctively, an adult male dog will tend to fight with other males, and attempt to mount any female that will allow. A female, despite being less aggressive, may also want to peel off with other females, and if she is in heat, standing heat by a male. Only if we can control are tied to them immediately. In the event that these things occur (for some reason could not be avoided), this is what you should do:
-Fight: We must take courage and try to separate them. If one of the two animals is much lower, shall be submitted promptly and no further problems. But as both are dominant, the fight is “all out” and can end badly.
-Ride: Nothing to do. We have to wait to finish and separate themselves. The reason is that, for anatomical circumstances, the male can not leave until it’s over. If you try to separate them by force is a very high risk of causing permanent injury to both the male (affecting your reproductive system) and a female (from lacerations to broken pelvic bone).
-In a female in heat, limit the walk to the minimum time necessary. This only lasts a few days, and avoids the risk of occurrence of an unwanted ride, let alone that they will pursue all dogs and can end up scared.
-If we take the dog to a park where there is grass and can be let loose, do not forget, when we get back home, give a brief review for ticks. We must do this too if you’ve been playing with other dogs.
